As a child growing up in the Nation’s capital, I remember countless weekends when I made a choice to watch cartoons or play outdoors, but apparently my Mother had others plans! And those plans typically included house cleaning chores. Yes, she made an executive decision that overrode any other decision that was presently on the day’s agenda. Whatever I was assigned to do, had to be done and be done right! 

    ✓    I couldn’t cut corners.
   ✓    I couldn’t do a half job.
   ✓    I couldn’t come up with excuses.
   ✓    I couldn’t dismiss the orders.
   ✓    I couldn’t avoid the process.
   ✓    I couldn’t alter the instructions.
   ✓    I couldn’t give average effort.

As painful as it was at the time, I had no idea my Mother was building something beautiful in me. She was instilling values that I would cherish and carry throughout life and business; values such as work ethic, dignity, integrity, excellence, taking pride in work and getting the job done.
